CancerEducation: Multiple Myeloma Update from the 44th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)

Multiple myeloma is a hematologic malignancy that affects tens of thousands of people annually. For decades, there had been limited therapeutic advancements for myeloma patients as the understanding of this disease slowly increased. In more recent years, because of the discovery of some of the molecular pathways of the disease, new therapies have been successful in clinical studies for treating both relapsed/refractory diseases in myeloma patients as well as newly diagnosed patients. In addition, increased attention and study has been focused on improving the efficacy and tolerability of transplantation.

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with multiple myeloma.

Upon completion of this activity, the participants will be able to:
  1. Review clinical advances in the treatment of patients newly diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
  2. Describe the role of novel targeted therapies for treating patients with relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma.
  3. Review the side effect profiles of new myeloma therapies and their resolution.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine, AOI Communications, L.P., and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. The Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
