Continuing Education Overview


Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses and social workers at intermediate and advanced levels of practice and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with hematologic cancers.

Program Goal
This program will provide an opportunity for healthcare professionals to expand their knowledge of caring for patients with hematologic malignancies through a presentation of case studies.

Program Overview
Through a presentation of case studies, best practices for patient management are shared. Important themes are highlighted throughout each case, including treatment, side effect management, and effective communication tools for educating patients on clinical trials. The 1.5 hour program includes four cases - two presented at the live symposium at ONS and two recorded after the live program by our expert panel. The 1.0 hour program includes two case studies.

Education Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify two newly approved therapies for the treatment of patients with blood cancer
  • List two factors used to assess and establish individualized treatment plans
  • Explain methods for managing two potential treatment-related side effects
  • Describe communication strategies for educating patients on treatment adherence
  • Identify resources for addressing treatment and survivorship challenges

Approval for nurses has been obtained by the LLS National Office under provider number CEP 5832 to award 1.5 continuing education contact hours through the California Board of Registered Nursing.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), provider number 1105, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org Approved Continuing Education Program (ACE). Approval Period: December 2014-December 2017. LLS maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social workers will receive 1.5 CE clock hours.
